Fun Ways to Celebrate National Dog Day

Did you know that National Dog Day is coming up August 26th? While we think our canine pals should be celebrated every day, this is a perfect time to pamper your pet a bit, and score some extra tail wags. Read on as a North Las Vegas, NV vet offers some helpful tips on how to celebrate this special day with your furry best friend.

Fun Excursion

Man’s Best Friend loves exploring! Take your pooch on a fun outing to a doggy park, or explore a new trail or walking route.

One thing that is bound to get that cute tail going is a yummy treat. Regular doggy treats are fine, but if you really want to pamper your pooch, get him something special. Doggy ice cream, which you can find in most pet stores and supermarkets, is one good option. Plain, cooked meat, chicken, or fish are also fine, as long as the bones and fat are removed. You can also make your pet some homemade treats. Just be sure to stick with ingredients that are safe for Fido.

Puppy Playzone

Do you have a yard for your pup to run and play in? Make Fido’s outdoor time even more fun for him by adding a kiddie pool or a sandbox for him to play in. A new doghouse is also a great option!

Did you know that many dogs really like learning new things? Fido should have basic doggy obedience commands, like Sit, Stay, and Heel, mastered before learning cute tricks. If your pooch doesn’t have these important commands down yet, take time to work with him, or enroll him in obedience classes. If your canine companion is already well-trained, teach him a fun trick, or work on advanced training.

New Bed

A new bed would make a great gift for Fido! Senior dogs and large breeds may appreciate the support of an orthopedic bed, while smaller pups often like bolstered beds.

Toys are very important to Fido’s health and well-being. They not only keep him entertained and out of mischief, they also help keep him active, and offer him beneficial mental stimulation. Pick up a new plaything for your furry friend!
