Dr. Debra Cortez

Associate Veterinarian, Acupuncturist

Dr. Debra Cortez cannot remember a time in her life when she didn’t want to be a veterinarian. Her family likes to say that she was born a vet! Dr. Cortez considers her work in the animal-care field a true blessing.

Dr. Cortez grew up in Las Vegas and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. She attended veterinary school at Colorado State University, then returned home to start her career.

After working in a relief capacity, Dr. Cortez was so impressed with the clinic’s quality of medicine and strong ethical values that she decided to apply for a full-time job! She’s been a part of the team since the spring of 2014. Acupuncture is Dr. Cortez’s specialty, and she’s extremely passionate about allowing pets to relieve pain naturally. She’s also interested in dermatology; there are few things more rewarding for her than resolving a pet’s itching!

Dr. Cortez and her husband, Ron, have two grown children and four grandchildren. They share their home with three rescued cats and a rescued dachshund mix named Bert. When she isn’t spending time with family or improving the lives of pets here at the clinic, Dr. Cortez is an avid crafter and a self-described Pinterest junkie. She’s also fond of camping and hiking in the mountains with her family.

Joyce Wong

Associate Veterinarian

As a child, Dr. Joyce Wong always wanted to learn everything she could about whatever animal she was interested in at the time. As she got older, her love of science started to bloom. She chose the veterinary profession because it allows her to exercise her passion for the sciences while working directly with the animals that she loves!

Dr. Wong was raised in the Los Angeles suburbs and attended the University of California at Davis to study animal science. She worked as a Veterinary Technician for two years after graduation, then returned to UC Davis for veterinary school. In the summer of 2014, she signed on as an Associate Veterinarian here at Critter Care Animal Hospital.

Ophthalmology is one of Dr. Wong’s favorite areas of veterinary medicine; she never ceases to be fascinated by the internal parts of the eye. She’s also passionate about animal behavior and loves strengthening the bond between pets and owners by improving an animal’s mannerisms and mood.

When she isn’t caring for pets here at the hospital, Dr. Wong can be found playing ultimate Frisbee, traveling, spending time outdoors, or hanging out with her terrier mix, Noodle.
