5 Crucial Kitten Care Tips

Are you adopting a kitten? Congratulations! There are few things cuter than baby cats! You’re certainly in for lots of adorable moments with your new furball. Kittenhood is a crucial time for our furry pals, both physically and emotionally. Below, a Craig Road, NV veterinarian discusses kitten care.

Kittenproofing

Kittens are basically adorable, furry balls of mischief. Little Fluffy is going to want to investigate everything in her new home. This curious streak can lead your tiny furball right into trouble! Be sure to kittenproof your home. Remove any toxic plants, and keep small items, such as craft kit pieces, securely away from those little paws. Remove or secure plastic bags; electrical wires; drape cords; and household chemicals, such as cleaning products. Keep appliances, like washers, dryers, toilets, and stoves, closed, and keep a watchful eye on your furball at all times.

Petiquette

It’s much easier to teach a kitten good manners than to try and retrain an adult cat with bad habits. Discourage play fighting, and don’t tempt your little furball to pounce on your fingers and toes. Also, be sure to provide proper scratching options, such as a scratching post or cat tower, and encourage her to use them.

Health Care

Little Fluffy will need to visit the vet several times while she’s little. In addition to her initial shots and examinations, she’ll need parasite prevention products. We also recommend getting spay or neuter surgery before she matures. Also, keep in mind that kittens are fragile and can get sick very quickly. Keep a close eye on your little one for any possible indications of sickness. Lack of appetite, poor grooming, lethargy, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea are a few common signs of illness in kitties.

Diet

Proper nourishment is very important for kittens. After all, your little furball has lots of growing to do! Get your feline friend started out on the right paw in life by feeding her a good, nutritious diet. Ask your vet for specific recommendations.

Cuddles

We saved the best for last! Socialization is very important, and will help your cat grow into a friendly, happy adult feline. Play with your tiny furball daily, and offer lots of kisses, praise, toys, and attention. Kittens grow up fast, so take lots of pictures!
